Well, after just over 100 days of rest and getting a little on the "FluffySide" I'm back. Back on September 23 I decided that I was going to take a little break after 16 months of running. Which included six or seven 5k's and the Knoxville Marathon in April 07. In short I was just tired. I can think of several things that would most likely equate to well though out excuses, but why waste the time. I'm here right now, and I'm ready to go! This morning I had to put all of the negitive self talk out of my head and just get out the door... IT FELT GREAT! Sort of a cross between a Frothy Expresso and Dragging a Boat Ancher 3.28 miles!
In short I would like to invite you along for the run. We all go through changes. I for one am not immuned to this thing called life. I have recently left the trucking industry to chase after a life long dream. Photography (full time). Yes, I have been a photographer out on the road for many years and have decided to turn pro. Which simple means that this will be where the majority of my income comes from... If you are interested I will be sharring the story of that change in upcomming posts. Thank you so much for stopping by. I look forward to hearing from you and about your experiences with "lack of time and life getting in the way" of running stories. I hope that the year 2008 is absolutly fantastic for you! Until next time, DC

A "Quote of the Day"...
"Running keeps me at a physical peak and sharpens my sences. It makes me touch and feel and hear as if for the first time. Through it I get past the first barrier to true emotions, lack of integration with the body. In it I escape the from the pettyness and trivialities of everyday life. Once inside I stop the daily pendelum perpetually occilating between between distraction and bordome. Dr.George Sheehan, From his book, Running and Being, The Total Experience, Pg 249 first paragraph...
Thank you George.
Thank you George.

Hello Fellow Runners!
Yes, I know GREEN! Hey I was just getting used to spring what can I say?!
Well I know that it has been a while since my last posting, I'm still here. My running is going pretty good. I set a new PR A few weeks ago in a local 5K. I finished 12th out of 168 people with a 00:20:18. It was an amazing race. For the first 75 yards I was out in front and IT FELT AWESOME! I was quickly over-run by whome I call the "ELETE" guys, but man that few seconds was AWESOME! I have been averaging my mid thirty mile weeks now for about 12 or 13 weeks now. Dropped my running "EVERYDAY" to running more miles per run at four or five runs per week. I just kept feeling that I was really pushing the envelope towards injury running too often.
If you have kept up with me on this blog, you know of a mis-hap with a late-night driver who ended up going to jail along with her partner who decided to step out of the car and threaten me bodily harm. Well the court date was yesterday. So I had to appear. Well with over 200 cases to be heard that day it made it a bit hard to have "My day in court". It has been re-set for a month from now. To be honest, It's driving me fricken nuts. I just hate unfinished business of this caliber. I don't know how lawyers do it everyday, must be the $. Anyway, the whole incident rattled me really good, I had gotten away from my Posts Here and I guess got a bit depressed, The Good News... I'm back. God bless you all. Check back soon, DC

How Is Your Springtime Running Going?
Howdy,
I guess that's a good question for you... How is your springtime running? Have you ran any good races lately? Not talking about "Time" so to speak, that to me is something between the runner and him/her self. A 13 min 5k is the same as a 59min 5k, the bottom line, you did it!
I have tryed something new over the last few weeks. Several times over the last few months I started increasing my mileage a little too fast and as it went I ended up with a sore shine or foot and had to back off for "a while". Then I read an article that suggested running less days per week but adding more miles to my runs. Now, I really love to get out and run for an hour and a half to two hrs, but running six-days-a-week it was just too much. At first it drove me nuts! I missed my daily run like you have know idea. But then when I did run and ran further it was awesome! As an example, in the last 7days I ran a 17miler, a 10+ miler and a 12+ miler with a 5+ and one day of "speed in there being today which was day eight. I ran two one mile loops around the block here and was quite surprised. Anyway, for me this has worked and allowed me to keep my weekly miles above 30 for the last 7 weeks. I'm sure there are several of you that run many more, I'm still a newbie! Anyway, this run longer and take a day and ride my bike or work on my core then run long on the third seems to be working for me.
Just a quick note. Since my little incident with the wacked out driver and having to use the pepper spray, all is better now. It really messed with me for a while. Time really does heal all or at least gives us time to adjust! Thank you all for your well-wishes. Remember though, always expect the UN-expected even while running near your home... DC

This Could Happen To You, BE PREPARED.
Hi, Sorry for my absence of nine days or so. Alot has happened, Good and Bad. First I want to share with you the incident that happened just three houses down from our residence. I AM VERY SERIOUS ABOUT WHAT I AM GOING TO SHARE WITH YOU.
My day ran long as far as work and my commitments to family, so I decided to take a later in the evening run. Not so uncommon for me. And besides it was only 10pm +/-. First two nights before I had don the same and ended up extending my run my a mile or two. I which I had a somewhat "gentle" run-in with a Pit-Bull and a German Sheppard. As runners we expect that eventually we will have something like this happen and, if prepared all will pass without incident or bit marks right? So in having the "Close Call the next day I took my little girl to see the baby chicks at the old hardware store and since I was there, I picked up a 15gram bottle of pepper spray that would clip to my running shorts and really not be noticed...
On to the second night after the purchase. And a case of what I call "DIVINE SYNCHRONICITY"
I left my house for my 1/2 mile warm-up. Walk, Fast Walk, Up The HR Sync the GPS Then take off back that direction and re-passing the house onto where ever the run takes me. Just down from the house I saw a car coming erratically. Fast, Slow Fast, Slow, etc. I was cautious. Then just before they got to me they made a hard left into a driveway two driveways from mine. Put the car into reverse, So I slowed and changed direction and ran into the grass through the front of my neighbors yard and 10 feet from the front of the car. As I did this the driver reved the engine and basically put me on the hood. (remember they HAD it in reverse). At this time I can only say that it happened two more times followed by a rather large and intoxicated male passenger getting out of the car with bad intentions. I am 5' 11" and 160 lbs. Wearing only running shorts and shirt, shoes AND #1-CELL PHONE #2- PEPPER SPRAY. 911 was called, during the incident and the spray was used... I will only say this. IT WORKED and damn it, IT WORKED WELL. The car was caught within seven blocks after it left were everything happened. AND I was SAFE.
Now Listen. If you were faced with something like this, WHAT WOULD YOU DO? Are you READY? I'm telling you, I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENING THAT CLOSE TO MY HOUSE, OR EVER! This is a small town in the middle of the Smoky Mountains for goodness sake. Look, Alot of you guys out there would say, I'm going to buy pepper spray for my wife or girlfriend... WHAT ABOUT YOU? It can save your BUTT! I am living proof. Say I had been on a long run and am at about mile 10 or 12 and TIRED. Then something happens, YOU NEED BACK-UP DUDE.
I'm sure that I will have to go to court and point my finger at the woman driving and the man who threatened me, But I guarantee they will think about it before they do it again. That is how our system works. We have to speak up. Remember... CELL PHONE and PEPPER SPRAY as a precaution, don't go living in fear, just understand the possibilities in this day in age when running alone. DC

These Socks Are AWESOME!
Hello!
I have some awesome news. I am always interested in finding that "little something" that will help me with my performance and comfort level with my running. I mean, If my body is comfortable while I run then I find it much easier to get into the "Zone" we all enjoy while running. First thing, I AM NOT being pain or compensated in anyway to "push" this product AND it takes alot to get me to really "get into" someone Else's brand name. Yesterday morning I received the pair of Injinji Socks that I ordered a few days ago via the web. I have been very curios about them since I heard what the Ultra Marathon guys and gals said about them. I put them on and at first they were a little on the "different" side. but as soon as I put on my shoes... WOW! I can best describe it as being "Barefoot" I immediately felt that I had more control of my feet even though I had my shoes on. I wore them throughout my work day. Then I returned home for my evening run. I set out for a 5 miler that I do quite often. As I ran I just could not believe the difference. I felt things going on in my shoes that I was not aware of. Massive control in stride to stepping off of curbs running on gravel and the occasional jump to the grass as cars passed... They REALLY helped me. I ended up running 11 1/2 miles with MUCH less fatigue in my lower legs. It's really amazing. I would say, it is my opinion, if you are looking for that added "something" to help you be a better runner if through nothing but through a better understanding about what your feet are truly feeling, try these socks, your toes have alot to say to you! Have a good one, DC
